Body confidence is a growing issue in men and women all over the world, and one which can severely affect your life and overall happiness. With men, a great deal of pressure is placed upon their penis, and living up to what society deems ‘manly’. In a study last year, only 55% of the men questioned said that they were happy with their penis size. This fear develops at a very young age and can get worse as men grow older, leading to some rather large insecurities and confidence issues.
Despite this widespread fear of not measuring up, 85% of women said they were perfectly happy with their partner’s penis, and another study revealed that people are much more likely to have an unusually large penis, than a abnormally small one. Why then are penises, and their size and shape, such a prevalent issue in men all over the world? Here are 5 of the top reasons why men develop insecurities about their members.
For most men, particularly heterosexual ones, having an accurate understanding of how their penis measures up against others is difficult, owing to the fact that they probably haven't seen many - or any. In fact, one of the most common areas for developing males to see penises is porn, and when this is an industry made up of people specifically chosen for having “better than average” body types, and this forms the basis of someone's staple for comparison, it is easy to see how this can manifest as unrealistic body ideals in men.
From stone age paintings, to trophies from all over the world, phallic imagery has played a big part in general society. When this comes in tandem with underlying implications about penis size and shape, this too can play a part in contributing to this body image crisis. Young males joke about having the biggest penis, businessmen are referenced as having “big swinging dicks”, and frequent societal comparisons between a notion of ‘manliness’ and having a large penis has become ingrained in many parts of everyday culture. The ideals associated with being a man can be damaging and even further ingrained, but it can have a direct impact on penis insecurity. In the same way that women are bombarded with societal ideas on motherhood and body image, men too can be victims of this ingrained notion of what it means to be a man.
From sex-driven conversations, comments by men and women and dozens of films, televisions and songs, there is another underlying notion that having a bigger penis leads to better sex. Despite the fact that most men are statistically unlikely to have anything to worry about in this aspect, the very notion of whether size matters is something which many have debated. In the end the answers seems very much dependant on the person you ask. Many men and women say that they really don’t mind about their partner's size, and many others even go as far as to say that having too large of a member is equally off putting.
For many people, the idea and notion of baring all to someone for the first time is a worrying experience. Not only are you leaving yourself open to potential scrutiny, but you could have all of your internal body issues confirmed. Now in most cases this is unfounded, disillusioned worry, is soon dismissed through a caring partner, but for the unfortunate few who have been openly mocked, or those too afraid to get to the point of stripping off, it can make for a remarkably difficult situation.
As with most body image problems, one of the main concerns is that once fixated on a particular perceived defect, it is usually fairly hard to make changes. This means many either live with penis insecurities or experience them growing into further psychological manifestations. Having poor body confidence has been linked to depression and suicide, particularly in young adults.
If you or someone you know is struggling with penis insecurity then there are a number of things you can do to improve it. Without surgery, Noogleberry penis pumps and penis extenders allow people to extend the size of their penis gradually. This can greatly help with body confidence and help people feel more comfortable with their image.
